While the synopsis made the book interesting, there wasn't much that happened within it. Some reviews said that this was an incredibly emotional read for them, and I just didn't get that. A lot of potentially emotional points were skipped over or made into footnotes. While gay people of color are rarely written about, neither Mike or Benson really talked about their circumstances, upbringings or struggles. Honestly, with some changes to the book, they could've been any race. So many conversations between characters were bland and repetitive. No one really had a personality (except Mike's mom, she's a gem). There were a few moments where I could relate to either of the main characters, but they were only moments. An okay read for the most part, but just meh overall.
