Revelation Space by Alastair Reynolds

5.0

Some of the best examples of interweaving arcs I've seen that come together beautifully. The premise of humans puzzling a previous civilization's existence through archaeology was great.

It's quite long, but once I got into it I couldn't put it down.

It's a breath of fresh air in science fiction to read something fairly grounded in both the timings it explores and the technology and science. Instead of something thousands of years in the future, it presets a very real feeling future possibility of what space faring humanity could look like.

I had half expected to get lost in scientific monologues and physics considering the background of the author in astrophysics. Pleasantly I did not encounter that.

Shout-out to some of the moral questioning characters, but all ultimately have good qualities you find sympathetic. Personal favourites were Ilia and Pascale.
