It had a very strong start but for some reason it felt rushed at the end :// I was kinda disappointed it ended like that because it felt incomplete like it was not tied up very well. For instance, the “resolution” between Aideen and her Mam was barely mentioned in the last few chapters but was SO heavily written in the earlier ones. The writing was inconsistent like two people wrote the book. It started off hilarious but towards the end it was toned down and not as funny in the first half. I don’t know if that was the author’s intention but it was jarring to read because I expected the humor to be consistent.

On another note, I loved reading about the relationship between the MC and her Mam. Truly the road to sobriety is never easy and linear knowing that the people close to you are getting affected by your actions.

Also the MC being a wee lesbian and getting the girl is like the backdrop of the plot. It’s my first time seeing that in a YA queer book but honestly I don’t mind. The main story was still just as compelling and engaging to read.

Nevertheless, this book was so hilarious I can’t even count the number of times I laughed out loud. Truly giving Derry Girls humor (missed my family 😔). And honestly the reason why I was intrigued to read this was because the MC pushing Meabh pushing off the stairs reminded me of that meme of Sue Sylvester pushing the opposing coach off the stairs 😭

Other than the lowkey flat ending, I loved this book. What a great start to the year!
