Capturing the essence of Howl's Moving Castle, Water Moon also makes the reader think and consider life events and choices as well as the impacts small and large choices have in the world around us. Many lines are easily quotable, which will likely inspire me to reread not too far down the line, especially understanding everything better in hindsight. Hana and Kei fit into their lives with purposes but at what costs? While Hana and Kei hold back to protect themselves up to a point, I love how slowly they learn who each other is at the core. They both have abandonment issues for different reasons, but the two represent opposite sides of a coin in dealing with their past traumas. The abilities of characters in Hana's world and the modes of transportation fascinate me. I'd love to see all this on the screen with animation. Live action could not do it justice. The moderately slow pace also pulls me to slow down to really appreciate what Kei is experiencing as a newcomer.
Graphic: Abandonment
Moderate: Death, Emotional abuse, Death of parent, Alcohol, Injury/Injury detail
