The Company of Fiends by Kathryn Moon

4.0

Better than the first, very erotic smut

This one has a plot. And more feelings. More pining and the threats and magic feel more tangible and real. Still so much sex, but it’s erotic and very descriptive. Kathryn Moon got more creative with this installment and it works. It may be that Hazel is a more relatable figure because she’s a working class girl (Esther was too, however she was immediately thrust into the lap of luxury so there’s just a different feeling to both women’s stories). This also was wrapped around a murder mystery so that was fun even if I guessed the murderer at the first body.

The monsters in this world are extremely varied. But the origins of them are glossed over heavily. Still, this book did better on explaining Hazels creature origins, and they were used to full extent in this story, so that was awesome.
