I rather enjoyed SBOS, as a whole. It’s clear that a great amount of research was done into the era, and I love a good pirate story. Unfortunately, it read more like a prequel than an entire story in its own right, not really picking up until the last 150 pages or so. However, I still plan on reading the next books in this series whenever they come out, where hopefully the story will be more of a cohesive whole.
