Really torn with how I felt about this duology. I know that I missed out quite a lot of connection as I haven't read the Remnant Chronicles but overall was just left with a bit of a 'meh' feeling at the end. I thought the start and end of this book was really good it was just the pacing in the middle that was all over the place which left me really disconnected with the story. It really could do with half the internal thoughts being cut out and more detail on the action scenes. I felt like some concepts were shoehorned in clumsily

(like the magic dust?)

to heighten the stakes without getting the time to be fully fleshed out.

Overall, considering this is a YA and I haven't read the prequels I just never got invested in the story unfortunately.
