carweneve 's review for:
The House of Mirth
by Edith Wharton
It was very well written, it was a very good description of society life, it was totally lop-sided. For 200-odd pages it was build up, build up, not a great deal happening, and when it did it took about five chapters then suddenly lickity-split everything rattled to a conclusion in 100 pages. Situations that would have taken pages and pages earlier in the book took up only a few paragraphs. I mean, I appreciated it as I had been wildly unimpressed by the start of the book and was forcing myself to finish it and I enjoyed the last 100 pages. I just wish that the whole book had been as pacy!
