Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

4.0

Gothic horror is the perfect way to describe this book. Holy gripes, the first 2/3 cannot prepare you for the ending. I had some insight from a friend that this was about to become pretty disturbing but I was still making so many faces by the end. If you take away the gruesome, unearthly, unsettling parts, you’re left with amazing writing. The story in this hooked me from the start. Each chapter was so moody and atmospheric and within the first 150 pages I told myself this was already one of my new favorite books. That is why I rate this one 4 stars, because I just adored how I felt in the beginning when I was reading.

Then we got to the ending and eeesh. My stomach was turning, if I’m being honest.
