Heat of the Everflame is one of those books you can’t think about too much after you finish it, but while you’re reading you have a wild time.

I’m gonna be so honest, there were parts of this book that bothered me a lot. There was heavy handed foreshadowing (I figured something out at 19% the came up again around the 50% mark, but Diem didnt figure it out until about 85-90% into a 36 hour audiobook. That’s a LOT of book to know something that the character doesn’t while having the same info. Similarly, there were multiple times I was ~screaming~ at Diem to listen to the people around her and take the advice of her MOST TRUSTED ADVISOR in a moment of crisis. Girl! If the person who never wants to tell you “no” tells you “no” you shouldn’t try three different times.

I also couldn’t figure out why Diem needed a pardon when she didn’t do any crimes. Why? Why? Just why?

All that being said, I had a fun time with this book. Every book in this series has expanded the world, and I look forward to seeing how it continues to expand in the fourth book. Hopefully we get release date info soon! 3.75 stars
