3.5
Rounded down to 3.5 Stars (better than the average book but not quite a 4 for me)
I oscillated between absolutely adoring this book and heavily cringing at certain parts.
To start off with the good: I ADORED Janelle, Rome, and Evie in particular. Evie had me cracking up multiple times. I would absolutely read a book written about her. Additionally, I loved how human Janelle felt. Often, educated and book-loving characters are written as incredibly shy and never go out with friends. While those people do exist (and I often connect to them), I loved seeing Janelle go out in Tulum and experience her girl group. It made her seem so real and like we would really connect. I also loved the ending, it was just sappy enough.
The parts that made me struggle were: The dialogue in the "spice" scenes was not quite my thing, however a lot of spice readers may enjoy it. I also struggled with wanting to pick up this book at time, it took me much longer to read than expected. I think this was because it was an insta-love set up. If the book was just a little longer the beginning could have played out where Janelle could warm up to Rome more. She thought this man hated her! I would have loved to see more of the "drum roll" before we got to the week long agreement.
Regardless of all the above, I will be begging for a book about Evie.
