Genre fiction must hold all the practical secrets to writing well because this book was transformative! I have never read another writing book that was as full of gems as this one. This book is brilliant. Every page spills with just sheer knowledge and intuition you can tell was dug up from years of experience and practice. If you are considering writing fiction, you need to read this book. Even if you don't agree with everything he says, some (and when I say some, I mean like 300 different concepts) things he says will definitely make you think. A lot of writing books tell you to do x but not y. And they don't really explain why to do things that way or explain it in a way that feels hostile to questioning the rules. But this book has rules that are explained, and all the whys are explained too. Every single one of them almost, which is great for fanatics like me. In fact, many chapters take mini breaks from exposition to have Q & A sessions where common questions that may come up are answered. Usually like 10 or so at a time. So if you have a brain worm about something mentioned, your question is likely to be answered in the next page or so. The comprehensiveness of this book makes it a ridiculously fruitful read. Highly, highly recommend!
