This was a really good second book in the series. It set everything up so well and the character growth? Phenomenal. It was kind of slow at the beginning as it was a waiting game to set everything up the way it needed to be and the time jump was a little disorienting, but once we got to the big finale, everything was very quick.
I think I was most impressed with the character growth in this book. Nahri has grown by learning how to stand up for herself and the things she believes in. Watching her stand her ground against the king was so good to see. And Ali is learning how to not be so rash and to also stand up to his father because he knows that what he's doing is not okay. I also loved Dara's struggle with his duty verses doing what he knows is right and I hope that we do see him have a redemption arc in the next book.
In all, for a second book in a trilogy, I think this was a great set up and I can't wait to see what the conclusion brings.
