Ugh, I’m so disappointed by this. I’m sorry but as someone who has been Percy Jackson fan for at least 15 years and having read all the other books, this book just felt like it was written quickly as a money grab. Either that or Disney held Rick at gun point and told him he had to write more books pronto.
The language and the writing and the whole story just felt too kiddy and aimed at Gen Z and the generation after that. I absolutely hated how every other page there was a line or even more explaining something from a past book, which is something that wasn’t a thing in The Olympians series or The Hero’s of Olympus series. This story is meant to be a follow on after the events of THoO series so there should have been no need to explain bits from other books because everyone (should) know all those past events. I even went back and just read a couple pages from a number of past books to make sure it wasn’t all in my head and the writing really is that different.
I get that sometimes you try to appeal to the younger generations and pull in a new audience, but seeing the words “bro” and “chillaxing” written down in this book honestly made me literally ick out loud.
The storyline itself was a decent one, it had potential and it does totally fit into Percy’s wider story, but my opinion is that it was poorly executed and written wrong.
