A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
4.0
adventurous dark emotional mysterious sad tense medium-paced

2022 re-read:
Rhysand stared at me for long enough that I faced him.
"Be glad of your human heart, Feyre. Pity those who don't feel anything at all.”

So I had a strong opinion on my first read of this book. But here I am re-reading it. I will say this isn’t my favorite book of the series, but it’s still good. The first 3/4 of the book keep me turning pages and interested in what happens next. The last 1/4 is kind of hard to read because it’s all so tense, but overall, solid fantasy read in a series where I just love the characters so much.

*coming back to say that I read book 2 a year after my original review and I have a different opinion now. I really enjoyed the rest of the series. Need to re-read this one again because obviously I was very triggered by all the red flags in the first book 😬😆*

2020 review:
It gets two stars only because I managed to finish it. I don’t even know where to start. I wanted to like this book. It was so hyped up on social media and the synopsis sounded entertaining. Parts of it would be okay and then I would roll my eyes at the plot or a character because it was “cringey” in some places. And does Sarah Maas enjoy making every character suffer? I feel like there should’ve been trigger warnings. Murder, forced murder, violence, torture, mental, emotional and physical abuse, near rape....this was not what I expect from a YA novel. I don’t know if I liked one single character in this book. The male characters were all terrible examples of how healthy relationships look and it was strange since the MC started out being so strong willed and then just ended up letting them all walk all over her 🤷🏻‍♀️
