Silver Lining by Skye Warren

5.0

Silver Lining is the perfect conclusion to Elijah and Holly's story, which also indicates what might just be the beginning of London and Adam's story!

Trigger Warning: Torture

Warning: This is a series where the books are in continuation. If you haven't read the previous books, then there may be SPOILERS in the following review.

Synopsis:
Holly and Elijah, and London and Adam. These two on-off, odd pairs' stories have been running parallelly throughout the last two books. Full of intrigue and suspense is what the brothers through fate, Adam and Elijah's, lives are. Holly, a YA writer, and London, a social media influencer, are two sisters whose lives intertwine with Elijah, and Adam, respectively. It is finally time for a showdown as well as time to question their life choices and their future, together.

Review:
After the suspenseful ending in the previous book, I was eagerly waiting to read this one. And the title is what gave me hope, that after all the darkness in the previous two books, there will be a silver lining for my favourite couple, Holly and Elijah.

With Holly in her condition at the end of the previous book, it was evident that they would be stuck at one place for quite a while. And in a strange way, it was the same situation for Adam and London, albeit at a totally different place and under completely different circumstances.

While everything that happened put all of them in a tough spot, Holly's courage is what shines through in the trilogy. She is a force of nature. Even the things Elijah did to survive throughout his life somehow seemed tame in comparison.

The book has some bloodcurdling scenes in the form of physical torture that Elijah faces, and even though it wasn't triggering for me, I found it very tough to stomach it. I also realised one other thing though, how the concept of torture is totally different when you watch it happening on the television compared to when you read about it.

Say in a movie, it happens in fits and starts, for small durations, and since it's visual, the reflexes are quick. But while reading, it feels like a long-drawn-out process where each and every line describing the various methods of torture being used becomes too much, sometimes.

This story is really intense, going through so many ups-and-downs, with some massive changes taking place in the protagonists' lives. There's love, action, loss, dread, helplessness, and so many awesomesauce revelations. It had its heart-stopping moments too. All the pieces begin to fall in place and it finally makes sense. The who's who of the whole lot who pull the strings of people like Elijah and Adam is revealed!
Do all writers have such an obsession with coming full circle, or is it just you?

In fact, this trilogy came a full circle. The ending, with a beautiful epilogue, is nothing short of magical. It is usually the case when a writer writes about a writer in a book. So many things can be expressed, and [a:Skye Warren|5339130|Skye Warren|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1580833030p2/5339130.jpg] does it in an intriguing way through Holly's pen.

There is a three chapters worth of an extended bonus epilogue, even though it's only about Adam and London. Titled Between a Rock and a Hard Place, it is available for newsletter subscribers. It made me wonder all over again whether somewhere in the future, there is a possibility of Adam and London getting their own story.

Having fallen in love with the North brothers, I can't wait to read [b:Overture|51842566|Overture (North Security, #1)|Skye Warren|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1582839816l/51842566._SY75_.jpg|67585180] and [b:Audition|52511243|Audition|Skye Warren|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1574915402l/52511243._SX50_SY75_.jpg|72679728], the older brother's standalone books!

Thank you to Valentine PR for an e-ARC of the book.
