When the Spanish Flu hits Philadelphia, 12-year-old Pia is left to take care of her twin brothers. While she is out finding food for all of them to survive, the brothers are taken. For the next several years, it is Pia's mission to find her brothers.
I really enjoy works of historical fiction, and reading about the Spanish Flu was interesting. There are so many correlations to the feelings and the way people acted during COVID-19. This is just proof that human nature doesn't really change over time.
The character of Bernice was really well written. I couldn't stand her and wanted to shout at her each time she shared her thoughts.
I will look for other books by this author, as this was the first I have read by her.
