The Stranger by Albert Camus

dark reflective medium-paced

4.0

a lot of layers for such a short book.

while meursault’s apathy throughout the first half seemed unsettling, what struck me most is that justice isn’t always about morality or truth; it’s often about how well someone fits into the emotional and social expectations of the majority. in meursault’s case, justice becomes a performance — one he refuses to give.

the stranger is less about murder and more about meaning,  or the lack of it. it’s the author’s absurdist philosophy in action: the world doesn’t operate according to reason or fairness, and those who refuse to play along with its illusions often suffer the consequences.
