Borrowed this novel from a coworker. Honestly I was surprised by how much time is spent in training and philosophizing war, and by the ties to family throughout. I disagree with a lot of the given perspective but found it kind of fun to think about in the context of when this novel was written compared to today.

Don't come here looking for any women with actual characterization, and do expect to see women treated as a treat, the occasional viewing of which serves to inspire the men! (But Heinlein mentions that women make the best piolets like twice and published this in 1959 so honestly it's better than I expected?)

I understand how this book has been so pivotal to sci-fi writing, and am glad I read it. Will I pick it up again? No. Will I watch the movie? Yes. Do I feel more in touch with the history of this genre now that I've read this? Ask me after I read more sci-fi classics, please and thank you.
