4.25*. I loved the main character in this book. Viola is world-weary beyond her years (but with good reasons), but also believably young. It's a heartbreaking combination though. But I also found myself hoping that at least her taking-no-nonsense-from-anyone attitude would never change.
Her entire family was a delight, and I was sad that we don't get to see more of them on page.
Jack was harder for me to envision. He seemed to me like several people rolled into one, and given a backstory that didn't quite fit how that already somewhat inconsistent character behaved.
Consequently their relationship didn't make a whole lot of sense. However, scene by scene they did illustrate what a good relationship work could look like, and I appreciated that aspect of the story a lot.
I would not call this a 'Twelfth Night' retelling though. It might have been loosely inspired by the plot of the Shakespearean play, but the story here is all its own.
