No Longer Human by Osamu Dazai

4.0

“he was a good boy. he was an angel.”

yozo is a character that no matter how hard i try to truly understand his self-destructive behavior and horrible decisions, i never will. i will never agree with him being good or an angel, but he was definitely not the horrible person he thought he was. contrary to his entire fear and thought process, he was, indeed, the most human. i’ll never be able to justify 90% of the things he did but i do feel for him, because you could tell he could not even justify or understand his actions himself. i wish somebody would’ve told him how “human” he was to his face, maybe he could’ve made something of himself if he knew that.
