milktoast 's review for:
As I Lay Dying
by William Faulkner
I'm still thinking about this one.
As I Lay Dying was difficult to read, but really fun. For the first 50 pages or so my reaction was just 'what', but eventually it all clicked and made sense. (Then I reread the first 50 pages so I could figure out wtf was going on)
The book chronicles the efforts of a family to move their mother's body for burial. It has a dozen POV narrators, including the dead mother, and is written in a stream of consciousness narration. I felt like the chapters were jumbled puzzle pieces, and only after I had read them all could I put the book together.
I think I'll come back and write more after I've thought more.
