Went on a nostalgia run after reading SOTR. My start with the Hunger Games was when the movie came out. After I watched it, I knew I was fixated and had to find out what happened next: I would be getting my first library card and checking out the series not long afterwards. However, I never checked out the first book because I thought with the movie, it had been enough. Boy was I wrong! Of course, the movies are still special to me, but the books, as the original source, laid out the horror of this world so viciously. I could feel the fear of surveillance and the Capitol with much more ferocity. Also, to be immersed in Katniss’ head really emphasized how she was just a GIRL trying to survive. It was easy to forget that when I knew JLaw was not 16. I also loved to see how clever and witty Peeta’s character is in the book compared to the movie. I always felt like he was missing something in the movies and here is where that sometimes laid. I’m blown away!
