The Lie Tree
by Frances Hardinge
You Feed it Lies! It Gives you a Fruit !! You Eat the Fruit and a Truth will be Reveled to you !!!
Due to a Scandal, Erasmus Sunderly and his family flees from the luxury of Kent to a remote island of Vane, to save his reputation as a Reverend and a Scientist. But the scandal spreads like and fire and reaches Vane. Eramus carries all his research papers and specimens along with him. He is found guarding one particular species more then anything else.
One night in trying to hide this specimen, he is murdered. But the authorities of Church and Law calls it a suicide and denies burial, until, a coroner , finds something wrong and calls for inquest.
Faith the daughter of Eramus is a very intelligent girl has every qualification to follow her father's footstep, but is never allowed to do so. Clever and Curious, but just because you are sorted as a female, you are restricted to enter and explore things that are meant only for human classified under Masculine Genders.
But during the night just before her father was dead , she had accompanied him to hide the specimen, her father was guarding more than his life.
Faith , who is clever smells something wrong and decides to solve the death of her father and the mysterious specimen, which turns out to be a Tree.
Not an Ordinary Tree though !!
The Tree lives on Lies you feed it !!!
When you feed it a Lie, it gives you a Fruit and when you eat the Fruit, it will reveal a Truth for you !
Learning the mystery of Tree, Faith decides to Solve the Mysterious Death of her Father , by feeding it Lies.
But there are revelations that are more than a Murder.
Fast Paced book having multiple genre of Dark/Crime/Thriller/Mystery/Fantasy. Loved the Language. There are references that are similar for Darwin's theory, that interested me( but they do not form a part of this book). The Story is very well connected and does not leave the central premise of the book anytime i.e the Lying Tree.
Loved it !!
