The Kitchen Counter Cooking School: How a Few Simple Lessons Transformed Nine Culinary Novices into Fearless Home Cooks by Kathleen Flinn
5.0
I thought this book would be a nice food read, pleasant but not something I'd remember much of in a month or two - boy, was I wrong. I love food, read all the magazines and blogs, cook pretty much every night, and I learned SO many things here. I'd never really stopped to consider how easy it is to make most things from scratch, or how much money I really am wasting every time I let something go bad and toss it out (ironic since food waste is a big issue of mine), or just how easy and simple good cooking can be, and is! I could relate to the volunteers who Flinn was teaching to cook and I started using ideas right away. I'd never really thought about braising vegetables before but I made fresh green beans braised with beef stock and it was great! Lots of good stories and Flinn shares my love of Julia Child which was just icing on the cake. Very highly recommended.
