The Days of Abandonment by Elena Ferrante

I can see how influential this book would’ve been but I think there were far too many times where I just wanted to yell at Olga to snap out of it. Her lethargy and spirals were exhausting but that is what made the book all the more real. I think I got weary since we were in Olga’s head the whole time and the prose, while beautiful, had me skimming the long paragraphs of run on sentences by the end. Good message and I was probably not the ideal audience for this novel but I can appreciate how it accurately depicted Olga’s realisation of the sacrifices she had made as a wife, mother, and woman, even if it became quite repetitive
