Reverie by Ryan La Sala
4.0

Deliciously queer. Or maybe maliciously queer?
Casting a flamboyant drag queen as the showy villain seems problematic, but after reading the authors note at the end I see she was cast as Kane's saviour - his first safe haven in a world that seems hostile and insidious.

Picked up as part of the teen #biglibraryread it was easy to fall into and get sucked into Reverie

Kane and his misfit friends (his sister Sofia, popular ballerina Adeline, football jock Elliot, social outcast Ursula and the mysterious Dean) are the Others. Damaged teens, each with personal trauma uniting them with powers to fight the Reverie - when unsuspecting citizens of East Amity have their dreams (good and bad) come to life. As the only lucid people within the dreams, it's up to them the unravel them and restore normality like a magic teen superhero crew.

What a gorgeous cover! I don't know who gets to decide what the Big Library Reads will be each year but I really do enjoy reading off the beaten track
