Her Final Hour by Rachel Amphlett

3.0

Det Sgt Mark Turpin and his offsider, Det Con Jan West, along with the rest of the team, are called in when a young woman is found dead by her jockey boyfriend during the practice gallops in the very early morning. She appears to be hard working and well liked by all. But they are deep in the Vale of the White Horse, where all strangers to the village stand out, so she must have been killed by someone she knew. But who and why?

This is the second book in this series. I am a huge fan of Rachel Amphlett and I enjoyed the first book of the series, but this one just did not do it for me. I really struggled with the pace of the first half of the book although I was glued to the second half. While this is a true reflection of the case, I found it frustrating to read. On the other hand this book was longlisted for the 2021 Davitt Awards.

I will definitely being reading book 3 of this series and will look forward to it.
