Set Fire to the Gods
by Kristen Simmons, Sara Raasch
3.5 stars
After the first 40% of the book, I almost gave up on the idea of this book being the source of my enjoyment. Turns the rest of the book wasn’t as bad as the first 40%, and I am so happy about that.
The story and worldbuilding are both very great and the whole concept was so intriguing to me. An enemies to lovers having to kill each other to win the war on their gods’ behalf?? And for them to fall in love instead? Yes sir that IS my shit. I love both Madoc and Ash (both as individual and as a ship) and their relationship progression.
I have to admit, the beginning of this book was very slow to me and I almost dnf-ed it due to many reasons (it’s not entirely this book’s problem). The writing was just pretty dull and boresome. But things started to get more interesting when I decided to just read the book, because I was already so far in anyway.
Overall, this book is in the okay-but-it-has-potential-to-be-better range. Since this is a series, I do hope the second one will be much better than this one, because I’m still interested in what happens with both Madoc and Ash in the next book.
