The Café with No Name by Robert Seethaler
3.5
hopeful lighthearted reflective sad fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: No

There were some moments I enjoyed and found to be heart-warming, but mostly I felt pretty neutral about the whole thing. The main character, Simon, reminded me of Ove from A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman, and overall I’d say I’d got more out that book than this one. I don’t regret reading it though, it just wasn’t very profound in what it was saying. But not every book needs to be profound, the story and the setting wraps up nicely and creates a comfortable mood.

Here is a spoiler for the self-harm tag if you need it:
Towards the end there is a woman who ends up cutting herself in the bathroom of the café, her name is Jascha and the scene is on page 144 in my version.
