This is an amazing book for anyone of any age. I've read it at least five times.
The pace is perfect, the characters are three dimensional, they're funny, they're sad. You can relate to them well. You really feel for them, or at least, I did.
The Greek mythology isn't Too Much for someone who doesn't know it, nor Too Little for someone who doesn't. It's explained pretty well in the story.
Humor is prevalent in this book, as it is in all of Riordan's works, and Percy as a narrator is awesome. He infuses his voice into the words, and he makes it fun even though he's having a rough time.
Over all, great book by itself and as the first book in the series!
