As a lover of Hideaki Anno’s Cutie Honey movie and someone kinda appalled by Go Nagai’s original work, this was a joy to read.
Shimpei Itoh, someone I’d never heard of before, is a masterful storyteller. The giant boobs made my eyes roll but the movement and character expressions are top notch.
I guess Itoh was confident his series wouldn’t get cancelled so he unfortunately had to rush the ending (he apologizes in a letter at the end). As a result, it does kind of taper off in quality and the story loses me a little bit. It’s not bad but the first half of this is near-perfection and then there’s a certain point you ask yourself “how is this going to wrap up?”
I guess I know now.
If you like Cutie Honey, check this out. It’s still great and honestly some fantastic storytelling.
