The Wishing Spell by Chris Colfer
5.0

When I first heard that Chris Colfer had written a book I told myself I would have to read that, then promptly forgot about it. While browsing at a book shop I saw a book with the most beautiful cover and thought I have to read this, it will be amazing. It was then I realised that these books are one and the same. Admittedly when I first started reading I was cautious despite how pretty the cover was and that it was about fairy tales, I am always sceptical when celebrities decide to write a book when their skills are known in a different medium, but in this case my worries were unfounded. Colfer has a wonderful voice flowing throughout the story and his imagery was spectacular (even if he made red-riding-hood blonde) he even managed to inject humour and morals into the story without it seeming forced. This is an amazing read which while classed as "junior" fiction I personally believe can be enjoyed by people of ALL ages. Despite my love of fairy tales even I had to think about which items some of the clues were pointing to, my only disappointment being how quickly I was told. The details that have been thought of and the depth added to the characters make this story and the people in it even more real than they were before. I am now anxiously awaiting a sequel because this is a world I am not ready to give up just yet.
