Three beautiful, haunting, heartbreaking stories wrapped up into one. July, 1974, the Turkish army has invaded a Greek town in Cyprus, and many lives are about to change. A young single mother looses her son and gets taken away as a prisoner. A young girl loses her mother and finds herself among the prisoners as well. A young Turkish soldier there on an assignment searches high and low for a woman he once loved. Miles away in London an older gentleman is reminded of an affair he once had and the horrible way in which he left things. Told in alternating perspectives, readers are immersed into our narrators lives as they navigate this tumultuous period of uncertainty. While the war is not the main focus it is impossible to miss the cruelty and horrors that take place against innocent civilians and the loss of life. The title is certainly intriguing, and within a few chapters readers are enlightened as to what a watermelon, a fish, and a bible have in common.
