The Care and Feeding of Stray Vampires by Molly Harper

3.0

I like a book with a sense of humor, and this one hits the mark. Banter between all the characters is well-done throughout the book. So many laugh-out-loud moments, and a few great tongue-in-cheek references to traditional urban fantasy tropes.

The male lead was a nice change of pace from other soft erotica - not only sexy and good-looking, but also an interesting *person*. The female lead was strong and competent, able to save herself and work in concert with the male lead to accomplish plot goals. No simpering "but what if he doesn't love me" ladies here.

Overall, the book is highly enjoyable. The only oddity is a handful of continuity errors. For example, he removes her bra, but he hasn't removed her shirt. Not entirely impossible right? But then he's sucking on her nipples, and I'm like -- but wait -- what about the shirt? And then a page later, she tugs her shirt off. Hrm. There's at least two other instances of errors like this in the book, which is unfortunate for an otherwise entertaining read.

Also, oddly, the female lead whacks her head on something in both major sex scenes. I suppose this was meant to illustrate to intensity of the encounter, but I found it pulled me out of the moment. Pleasure and pain can certainly be erotic when done right, but just whacking your head on walls and benches? Just makes me say "ow".

Even with the continuity errors & head-whacking, I recommend it - I burned my way through it in one evening. Good times.
