I might be in the minority, but I loved this book more than the first in the duology! The pace felt faster and the stakes felt higher, which kept me tightly roped in. The suspense built steadily until the end in a very satisfying way. The ending was superb: complex, not predictable, a wonderful mix of positive and negative emotions, tying up all loose ends and then some (I truly felt well-fed as a reader with the last 3 chapters that were kind of like epilogue part 1, 2, and 3). I also loved learning more about the world, gods' history, and magic system, all which I yearned for in book one. This is a 5-star read for me easily, which I was pleasantly surprised by as I thought it would take awhile to love a book again after coming off my last big series (ToG).
