beautiful story about history, memory, and generational trauma. i wasn't taught about japanese-interment camps until my senior year of high school; the only reason i knew of their existence was because of family stories about jewish relatives who had just fled nazi germany and settled on the west coast, who were horrified by seeing the camps. telling stories within your family and communicating your history to each other is sometimes the only way we can learn the truth of the world.

i learned so much from this book!
