waxbiplane 's review for:
Our Crooked Hearts
by Melissa Albert
(4.5) At this point, I'll just read whatever Albert wants to write. It's an interesting quasi-departure from her Hazel Wood books, but certainly incorporates storytelling and witchcraft as important beats and themes--this is more of an examination of trauma in its various forms and how it metastasizes throughout our lives and the lives of children, especially when we try to protect them from making mistakes we did. Recommended if you like her other stuff. I listened to it, with two different narrators reading the respective chapters, and it was great.
