I read so many mediocre to bad reviews of this book that I told myself I'd give it to 20% and then DNF it. Then 25%. Then 50%. Then I knew I was just going to finish it because, well, I actually liked it quite a bit.
I have read that nothing actually happens in Roadwork but I disagree. A heck of a lot more is happening in Roadwork than Rage, the novel in which people talk.
In Roadwork, Barton Dawes is definitely cracking up, but he's a man with a plan regardless and I found it quite interesting to watch him working tirelessly toward his goal. He has doubts and some fumbles but the span of the book is like watching the sun set. Beautiful and terrible.
