America Chavez: Made in the USA #1 by Carlos Gómez, Kalinda Vázquez, Kalinda Vázquez

How did I not know about America Chavez!? Also, the pub date on this is wrong. I'm pretty sure this was delayed until March 3rd, 2021 because of COVID. America Chavez focuses on a LatinX, queer girl by the name of America who is a part of the west coast Avengers. This is a great jumping point for individuals who are interested in her origin story, but are not necessarily familiar with where she appeared in other Marvel comics. This first issue doesn't provide all of the details of this; however, it sets up an interesting cliff hanger that will leave readers wanting the second issue. I loved that readers were exposed to a little bit of the found family trope through a narrative that traveled from the present to the past. After reading it, I did have a few questions that I'm hoping will get answered in the second issue. America appears to be losing some of her abilities and powers which may be related to an attack of her adopted family. There is much to be discussed in regard to the relationship status of America to her adopted family as well as what could possibly be out in the universe attempting to get rid of her powers. There is an omnipresent narrative that added such a flair to the story as whole. I liked the art, but I wasn't a huge fan of some panels where the shadow technique didn't work well for some of the characters. Meaning that there were areas of character faces that suffered from the inability to add the appropriate amount of shadow. Overall, this is a gerat first issue and I'm extremely excited to see where this story is going to take us!
