Yellow Wife
by Sadeqa Johnson
I've not read anything by Sadeqa before, but her story was well told. I didn't know what the term, Yellow Wife, meant. This story based on true events from our sad and brutal history is deeply disturbing. I enjoyed reading it, as much as one can about such things, and am always glad to learn more about history. This jailor was ugly as were most of the white characters in this book, except for very few. I think I will always struggle to understand how people could be so mean and live with themselves, how they could be so called Christians and yet act like the devil himself. It is sadder still that there continue to be people who believe in the caste system (knowingly or unknowingly) and also that racism doesn't exist. We have a long way to go.
