No one warns you so I will: about 3/4 in the book takes a crazy dark turn. I thought it’s a book about games and friendship and I was absolutely not ready for that and didn’t even want to finish (I did anyway). So just be aware.
I have mixed feelings because on the one hand, I felt captivated, I wanted to know, what’s next, even though there isn’t very driven plot, and I enjoyed how none of the characters were purely black or white. On the other hand,I hated Marx death and found it lazy writing — as if there is no drama in life without terrible death. I don’t think Sadie got what she deserved. Most of all, their friendship never got me. So much talk about intimacy with privacy but I never thought “that’s a relationship I want in my life”, you know?
