Immortal with Scars by Elizabeth Stephens

5.0

I received this book as an ARC for an honest review.

This is the first book I've read from the Population Series. I've read and fallen in love with Elizabeth's Xiveri Mates series and I absolutely love her writing. But, I was not ready for the chokehold this book was going to have on me.

Lahve is a 3000 year old alien vampire and he takes his title and role seriously. He's a neutral being in a vicious world. Lahve is methodical in how he operates and does not feel emotions. He does what is necessary and what he believes his right. He lives in the way he believes he should as to honor his planet. And then he meets his mate and everything changes.

One of the things I appreciated about this story is it is not an immediate change. Lahve does not recognize his mate right of the bat nor does he pursue her immediately. Her presence opens a brand new world for him and he suddenly has to learn how to operate with emotions he hasn't had in millennia. If that's not enough, his mate wants nothing to do with him and has her own scars to heal, and life she's trying to live in the best way she knows how.

I loved watching them learn how to communicate. Lahve is so politically correct, assuming people know what he means and the suggestions he makes, where Candy needs a direct approach. Lahve also takes care of her (swoon), not because he believes her to be weak or unworthy just because she's a human, but because he actually sees her strength and wants her to feel supported in it. While Lahve can be possessive and domineering, he ALWAYS supports his mate and that was incredibly beautiful to see.

They're not without their faults, apart, nor together, but they work on those with one another. Their relationship and the pacing of this book make sense, it's believable, realistic, and absolutely perfect.

I couldn't put this book down and did not want to sleep without finishing this story. I went through so many emotions from aweing when he played the piano for her and bought her clothes, to hollering in the middle of the night when Lahve has his "small meltdown" and while I had absolutely no issue reading the series from the start of book 3, I'm going to go back and read books 1 and 2 because it was THAT good.

This book is a must for those who like:
- A possessive, supportive, protective, jealous virgin male who gets vengeance for his mate.
- Alien vampires
- A heroine seeing her strength
- Strong, diverse, characters.
- Excellent worldbuilding
- Breeding behaviors ;)
