The River at Night
by Erica Ferencik
This was a good suspense/thriller. Four middle aged women set off on a weekend wilderness rafting trip that turns out to be more of an adventure than they expected. The beginning was great with rich character descriptions. By the middle of the novel, it became less character driven and all about the plot. While the suspense, including detailed descriptions, was high there were numerous stereotypes about the women's situation (no details in an effort to avoid spoilers) which weakened the story. The author seemed to fast forward the story at about 80% which was too bad.
