Jay's Gay Agenda by Jason June

5.0

This book is very cute! Some stuff was awkward in that no kid talks that way irl but it was a cute story I really liked it. It's a quick and easy read, and I love that gay highschool boys have this. 4.5 bc I wouldn't necessarily re read it but I think this book deserves more love than a 3.6 rating so I'll give a 5. It's cute and understandable and I think it's great for queer youth to read about books with honest characters having healthy conversations, being vulnerable with each other, the importance of honesty in feelings etc. Characters who mess up, acknowledge their mistakes, make them right, but also give grace to those they have hurt and allow space for forgiveness, healing, and personal space. Good dialogue in not pressuring people to accept apologies instantly and to allow ppl the space they need to process. I think it's a great book for kids to have an example of healthy relationships centered around honesty. I also love the conversation Jay had with Max about pronouns, it was quick nbd and respectful. I think it's a great example to kids on how to share your pronouns with someone. Though, it would have been cool if Jay used she/her pronouns when referring to Max too not just exclusively he/him.
