The Courage To Be Disliked: How to free yourself, change your life and achieve real happiness by Ichiro Kishimi, Fumitake Koga

3.0

The Courage To Be Disliked is an important read for anybody who wants to learn how to raise their self-esteem and learn about self love. The lower our self-worth, and perceptions of ourselves, can lead to negative impact in so many areas of our lives. We can sacrifice our own identities trying to seek approval and recognition from others. Remember; it is okay to be you. If somebody dislikes you for simply being who you are, that’s entirely their problem, unless you are hurting other people. You should never change yourself unless it’s necessary, and/or benefits your overall well-being.
Find the courage to be the odd one out, to stand out from the crowd. Be expressive and passionate about the things that interest you and that matter to you.
This way we can cultivate the most healthy interpersonal relationships with others.
I was bullied heavily as a neurodivergent teenager, that I believed I should be *anything* but myself to be accepted and liked by others (yay for masking lol). It’s okay to seek help if you struggle with identity issues by professionals, but a lot of it takes time and is inner work.

You should never compare yourself to anybody else. You should never “compete” with anybody else. The only person we should ever compete with, is ourselves. To strive to be a better version of ourselves than yesterday. To celebrate our own, personal, goals - no matter how big or small. This is your life, you have your own path, and the sooner you learn that, the better. Ensure to implement this philosophy into your daily life and actions.
”We can’t all be the same; our paths, struggles, and victories are so diverse that to expect one’s life to be the same as another is illogical.”

Whilst I agreed with a lot of points made here, this book doesn’t seem to take into account certain mental health issues, especially surrounding PTSD/C-PTSD and trauma, at times. Which is putting me off picking up a physical copy.

Read on the Headway app, which condenses non-fiction books by their key-points to maximise quicker and more helpful learning. ✨🧠🖤
