“It is right to seek peace for the dead. You and I both know there is no peace for those who live after.”

This book was so much darker and emotional than I had been expecting. In the same vein, it was far more beautiful than I could have imagined. Both the writing and the story has me speechless right now... how does one recover from this book??

Whereas some books feel disconnected and slow, this book read like one continuous, fluid story that I simply could not put down. Patroclus stole my heart from the very first page, and there was something so sacred about being with him through all stages of life (and yes, I mean ALL of them...). Patroclus and Achilles had the sweetest yet most tragic love story. All I wanted was for them to be happy and living in peace. But there’s no complete happiness to be found in award winning stories, now is there? 🥲

Briseis was such a special character to me. I can’t explain it, but something just broke in me to read how her story line finished. She deserves so much better than the cards she was dealt in life.

I knocked this book down a star because although the ending was as good as we could have expected, I still don’t consider it a “happy ending” and therefore I can’t see myself wanting to reread this. Regardless, this was such a special story that I’m glad I finally took the time to read!
