**4.5**
What a fantastic first book of this new paranormal romance. We meet characters from Lark's other paranormal series but this is a standalone series.
Finlay is the beta of his pack, but also the de facto alpha while the actual alpha has moved away after the loss of his partner and child. Chester is a human that has moved to the area after inheriting a cabin on the loch but it came at the perfect time to escape an abusive relationship
**please note content/trigger warnings for mentally/emotionally abusive relationship/gaslighting/panic attacks/loss and grief**
Finlay has been grieving for many years, shifters having such life longevity, but upon meeting Chester, it is like a mental shift for him in that he can see life past those he lost. Chester is such a wonderful man who has experienced trauma from his ex but is working hard to make a new life for himself. He has his one staff member, Reid who may be scattered but an excellent worker at what he does. Otherwise, it's just him. Trust issues are now a big part of his life but Finlay is determined to put in the work and take his time letting Chester get to know him, even if it is slightly unconventional to start with :-)
Finlay's inner circle of his pack - Calan, Logan, and Evan - are equally funny, protective and family to the man in charge. Calan is actually his brother, Logan is the slightly crazy one who says whatever he wants but will cut to protect those he loves, and Evan is the newest member of the group but showing what he is made of.
There isn't just a new romance blossoming in this book. There is trouble with a pack they they have a painful history with as so things are set to change for them, whether for better or worse remains to be seen but I loved getting to meet the other supes when Finlay felt in necessary to ask for help.
A highly recommended read and I cannot wait to get Evan's story next.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
