This is my first F.T Lukens book and I admit I bought it solely on aesthetic but I'm so glad that I did. I bought this on a recent trip to an author event and powered through 75% of Spell Bound while I was in line that evening. The only thing I didn't vibe with were the narrators for the audiobook but that was heavily influenced by my brain already assigning Took and Sun voices from reading it the first time through that didn't align with the audiobook.

Spell Bound was fast paced and well written. The characters are loveable and watching their relationship grow through the various struggles was my favorite part. I also loved the representation in this book, Sun as a non binary individual and possibly even Ace. There was also representation of grief and the loss of community that can sometimes come from losing a loved one.

The magic system is laid out in an understandable way but still gives a sense of wonder. And the Consortium provides an enemy any reader can get behind fighting.
