It’s no secret that Darcy Coates is one of my favorite authors but I must say for the first time ever I found myself a bit underwhelmed by the story. I mean, sure it gave some interesting Jeepers Creepers vibes with a solid creature feature but the characters and plot just didn’t do it for me this time. 

Hopes dialogue and behavior often felt more fitting for someone a few years younger. Had her age not been explicitly mentioned, I’d have easily placed her around 10 or 12. As for Abby, while she makes for a decent lead, I found her personality a bit flat.

That said, it’s still an enjoyable read for those who love a good creature feature. Personally this one just wasn’t what I was hoping for.
